ARCHITECTURAL DESIGN II
(ARC60308)
This module introduces the principles and methods of analysis, abstraction, and synthesis in design thinking that are common to many design fields, including building and architecture. The key emphasis of the studio is “User and Context”, which investigates the relationship between user and natural environment.
Project 1: Diagramming Precedent Principles
In our respective groups, we were tasked to select one building precedent to perform a precedent study and explore the use of diagrams to analyse and communicate the architectural design. In addition to drawing diagrams, we also had to build 3D representations of each diagram.
We chose Holiday Home by Orange Architects.

Project 2: The Really Useful Staircase
In a smaller group, we were tasked to design a stairway inhabitation structure on a hypothetical 45 degree slope that served as a arrival and circulation component of a weekend getaway. Additionally, we had to include a pathway for public users to use the structure as a landscape to move up the slope.
Our group designed the 'Ethereal Ascend' which as the name suggests, provided for a magical and mysterious ascend. The pavilion was driven by the goal of minimising carbon footprint through it's airy facade that makes for a magical experience, as though it were floating amongst nature.

Project 3: Space and Sensory
We were tasked to develop a structure based on a narrative derived from our Project 1 models. We had to incorporate the concept of 'Path, Portal and Place' into an architectural experience.
I re-visited my process from Project 1 and created a 'Sanctuary of Solitude'. My narrative surrounded the concept of seclusion and an escape from reality.
